The Trial Record
What has actually been tested for neuropathy.
Acupuncture for diabetic neuropathy
A 2023 systematic review in Frontiers in Neurology pooled 25 randomized trials with 1,561 patients with painful diabetic neuropathy Source: Zhou et al., Frontiers in Neurology, 2023 (25 trials, 1,561 patients). Acupuncture therapies improved pain scores and symptom scores. The largest effects came from acupuncture point injection and from needling the limbs rather than the torso. The authors rated the certainty as low: most trials were small and from one country, and results varied widely. Their conclusion was that acupuncture possibly improves pain, and that the recommendation should be cautious.
Laser and laser acupuncture
A German placebo-controlled trial, ACUDIN, randomized 180 people with diabetic neuropathy to needle acupuncture, real laser acupuncture or a sham laser, ten sessions over ten weeks, measuring nerve conduction directly. It is the kind of study that will sharpen the answer. Smaller studies of low level laser for neuropathy report symptom improvements; none is large enough to settle it.
The medications
Gabapentin, pregabalin and duloxetine have the larger trial record for quieting neuropathic pain, and for many people they are worth taking. None of those trials shows them changing the nerve's circulation or the trend of the numbness, which is what our work aims at. The two run together.
What no trial supports
The 85 to 90 percent success rates some local clinics advertise. No published trial produces a number like that for any neuropathy treatment, including the drugs. If a clinic quotes one, ask where it came from.
What We Do With It
Use the methods with the signal, then measure you.
The review points at limb needling and point injection, so that is how neuropathy is treated here: electroacupuncture along the nerve pathways into the feet and hands, B12 point injections where needling alone does not hold, and painless low level laser on the feet and lower legs for the circulation and cellular energy the nerve has been starved of. Targeted supplementation and cellular energy support where they fit, so the office work holds between visits.
Then the part no review can do for you: a baseline exam of your sensation, balance and circulation, a defined course, and a checkpoint. Less burning at night, better sleep, sensation returning, steadier feet are the signs. If they are not there, we say so. Results are best while sensation remains and the cause is managed with your physician; fully numb, long standing neuropathy has limits. Full neuropathy page.

Is This You, Stonecrest?
Worth starting when:
- Your feet or hands burn, tingle or are going numb, and some sensation remains.
- You want the evidence before the plan, and a checkpoint inside it.
- The medication helps the pain but not the trend.
- Your blood sugar or other cause is being managed with your physician.
- You can commit to a course, not occasional visits.
See a physician first for sudden weakness, fast-spreading numbness, a foot wound, or symptoms with fever. Blood sugar, B12, thyroid and nerve conduction testing stay with your doctor; we coordinate.
