How Injection Therapy Works
Precision, plus something that keeps working.
A standard acupuncture needle stimulates a point mechanically and the effect resolves over days. Point injection adds a small amount of a targeted injectable at that same location, which keeps the area active longer and delivers an anti inflammatory or regenerative effect right where it is needed.
Trigger point injections work the same way on a muscle knot: a fine needle finds the taut band, and the injectable deactivates it more durably than dry needling alone in many patients. The volume is small, the needle is fine and the placement is precise.
These are not cortisone. We select the injectable for the problem in front of us, whether that is nerve pain, swelling, muscle spasm or tension, from agents chosen to support repair rather than suppress it, which means they can be repeated as part of an ongoing plan.

Based on your assessment, Dr. Cheshire selects the compound and the points that fit your condition, reviews your medications, allergies and any bleeding concerns, and explains what is being used.
Precise, brief placement
A very fine needle delivers a small volume at each point. Most patients describe a quick pinch and a moment of pressure. The whole process is short.
Right back to your day
No downtime. Keep the sites clean, avoid heavy strain on the area for the rest of the day, stay hydrated. Mild tenderness for a day, like the morning after a flu shot, is normal.
We track how long it holds
We note how long your relief lasts and adjust the plan to build on it. The aim is to space visits further apart over time.

Insurance
Injection therapy is a self pay service; we do not bill insurance for it. Acupuncture visits in the same plan are covered by many insurance plans, and we check yours before the first appointment.
How many visits
Relief from a point injection holds longer than needling alone, so most patients move from weekly to every two or three weeks, then monthly. Fewer visits is the point.

Medicare and acupuncture, exactly. Original Medicare covers acupuncture for one diagnosis: chronic low back pain, meaning pain that has lasted twelve weeks or longer, has no identifiable systemic cause, and is not related to surgery or pregnancy. It allows up to twelve sessions in ninety days, eight more if you are improving, and no more than twenty in a year, under physician supervision, which Dr. Phipps provides here. Where it applies you pay the Part B deductible and then 20 percent of the Medicare-approved amount. No other therapy on this site is covered by Original Medicare.
