Rotator Cuff Treatment for Fruitland Park, FL

"Can't lift arm above shoulder" and "shoulder pain reaching behind back" are the two searches that describe a worn rotator cuff better than any diagnosis does. The top shelf, the seat belt, the bra strap, the back pocket, the hair: each is a specific arc the cuff tendons have to control, and each one that has gone is a measurement we can take. Rotator cuff treatment near Fruitland Park, FL is tracked by exactly those arcs: shockwave to rebuild the tendon, laser, needling for the neck and shoulder blade muscles that have shortened around the joint, point injections, and a loading plan aimed at the reaches you have lost, by a board certified acupuncture physician with a medical doctor on site. Twelve to fifteen minutes up 441 through Lady Lake.

In short: Cannot reach overhead or behind your back? Rotator cuff treatment near Fruitland Park, FL with every arc measured and rebuilt. Free consult. "Can't lift arm above shoulder" and "shoulder pain reaching behind back" are the two searches that describe a worn rotator cuff better than any diagnosis does.

Which Reach Is Gone

Four arcs, four tendons, and what each lost one tells us.

The rotator cuff is four tendons, and each reach you have lost points at the ones that are worn and the muscles guarding them.

Overhead: the top shelf, the ceiling fan

Lifting the arm out and up is the supraspinatus, the tendon on top of the shoulder and the one most often worn. A painful arc around shoulder height that eases above it is the signature: the thickened tendon catches under the bony roof on the way past. Treatment aims shockwave at that tendon and needling at the shoulder blade muscles that have stopped rotating out of the way.

Behind the back: the bra strap, the back pocket

Reaching behind and up is the hardest arc for a sore cuff and the first to go. It needs the tendon at the back of the shoulder to lengthen and the one at the front to pull, and the chest and front-of-shoulder muscles that have shortened around a guarded joint block it. Needling those muscles is usually what unlocks it, often within a few visits.

Across the body: the seat belt, the far door

Reaching across is the back of the cuff being stretched and the AC joint at the tip of the shoulder being compressed. Sharp pain right at the tip points to the AC joint rather than the cuff, which the exam separates and which gets a different plan.

Everything, equally

A shoulder that has lost reach in every direction, stiff rather than painful at the limit, and cannot be moved further even by someone else, is likely frozen shoulder rather than a cuff, and needs a different approach and more time. We tell you which at the first visit.

How We Get The Reach Back

Rebuild the tendon. Release what is holding the arm down.

Most painful cuffs after fifty are worn, not torn: the tendon has thickened, the collagen has become disorganised and the repair has stalled, so the arc hurts and the muscles around the joint shorten to avoid it. Shockwave delivers acoustic pressure waves into the worn tendon, breaks up the disorganised tissue and any calcific deposit, and restarts the remodelling. Low level laser raises cellular energy in the tendon with no mechanical stress for the irritable weeks. Dry needling releases the shortened chest, neck and shoulder blade muscles that are physically blocking the arcs, and acupuncture points calm the signalling. Point injections, not cortisone, support the tendon when it needs more.

The evidence, with its limits: a 2024 review of seventeen randomized trials Source: Xue et al., BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders, 2024 (17 trials, about 1,100 patients), about 1,100 patients with rotator cuff tendinopathy Source: Xue et al., BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders, 2024 (17 trials, about 1,100 patients), found shockwave reduced pain and improved function against control, with the evidence rated limited and stronger for calcific deposits. We measure your own arcs, in degrees and in shelves. Full rotator cuff page.

What To Expect

What happens at the first rotator cuff treatment visit for Fruitland Park patients?

01

Measure every arc

Dr. Cheshire examines the shoulder and neck, tests each cuff tendon and each reach, reads any imaging, and sorts cuff from AC joint from frozen shoulder from torn.

02

Weekly for about six visits

Shockwave on the tendon and needling the blocking muscles in one appointment, laser where it fits, injections only if the tendon needs more. Fifteen minutes up 441, 7 AM slots.

03

Load the arcs you have lost

A home program built around the specific reaches, in the order they come back: usually behind the back first, overhead last.

04

Re-measure every visit

Then a taper. If an arc is not returning we say so, and say when imaging or a surgical opinion is the right next step.

Is This You, Fruitland Park?

A strong fit when:

  • The top shelf, the seat belt or the back pocket has quietly gone.
  • There is a painful arc around shoulder height on the way up.
  • It wakes you at night or decides how you sleep.
  • Imaging, if you have had it, showed tendinopathy or a partial tear.
  • You would rather get the reach back than keep working around it.

A surgical opinion first for an arm that went weak suddenly after a fall or injury. Something else if the shoulder is stiff in every direction, which may be frozen shoulder, or if pain runs from the neck down the arm. We screen for all three at the consultation.

Common Questions

What do Fruitland Park patients ask about rotator cuff treatment?

Usually a worn, thickened supraspinatus tendon catching under the bony roof of the shoulder on the way up, with the shoulder blade muscles no longer rotating out of its way. Both get treated.
It is the hardest arc for a sore cuff and the chest and front-of-shoulder muscles have shortened to block it. Needling those is usually what unlocks it. Dr. Cheshire reviews your medications, including blood thinners, before the first treatment, and anything injectable is supervised by Dr. Phipps, MD.
Behind the back, usually, once the guarding releases. Overhead last, as the tendon rebuilds.
If the shoulder is stiff in every direction and cannot be moved further even by someone else, it may be. A cuff loses specific arcs and can be moved further passively. The exam tells them apart.
Seventeen randomized trials, about 1,100 patients, pooled in 2024: less pain and better function against control, evidence rated limited. We measure your own arcs. Source: Xue et al., BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders, 2024 (17 trials, about 1,100 patients). We state the limits of the evidence as plainly as the results, and measure your own progress from the first visit rather than quoting success rates.
About six, weekly, with the home program between, then a taper as the arcs return. Progress is scored against measurements taken at the first visit, and the plan is changed or stopped if the numbers have not moved by the checkpoint.
Acupuncture visits are covered by many plans. Shockwave, laser and injections are self pay, and Medicare covers none of it for shoulders. We confirm before you book. Call 352-430-2720.
