Cost First

How heel pain treatment is priced here.

Shockwave: the usual lead for a chronic heel

Charged per session with a series rate, and the series of three to six is quoted in writing before the first one. Self pay; no insurer covers shockwave for a heel. Most Lady Lake patients need no more than the series.

Acupuncture and dry needling: often covered

Per visit, and many insurance plans pay for it, with needling of the calf chain included in the visit. Phone with your card and we read you the copay. Self pay: a longer first visit with the exam, shorter follow-ups.

Laser and injections: added when needed

Laser per session, cheaper inside an acupuncture visit, the right lead for an early heel. Point injections per injection at the fascia attachment, not cortisone, only when the attachment needs more than needling.

Medicare

Original Medicare covers acupuncture only for chronic low back pain Source: CMS National Coverage Determination 30.3.3, not heels, and pays nothing toward shockwave, laser or injections. Some Advantage plans include acupuncture; we check yours before you book.

No packages. The whole plan is quoted at the free consultation. Call 352-430-2720. Insurance and payment details.

What You Are Paying For

A heel that stopped healing, restarted.

If your heel screams when you get out of bed, eases as you move, then flares again after you sit, that is plantar fasciitis, and once it is chronic it rarely resolves on its own. The fascia thickens at its heel attachment, the collagen becomes disorganised, and the repair process stalls. Rest, ice and anti-inflammatories treat inflammation, and a chronic heel has little; orthotics and night splints reduce strain but do not restart the healing the tissue abandoned months ago.

That is why the lead therapy for a chronic heel is shockwave: acoustic pressure waves at the attachment break up disorganised tissue, restore circulation and restart the remodelling. Laser raises cellular energy in the fascia painlessly. Needling releases the tight calf chain that keeps loading it. Point injections support the attachment when it needs more. Which ones lead comes out of the exam, and you are not charged for one it did not call for. Full plantar fasciitis page.

Worth It?

The shockwave trial record before you spend anything.

Nine trials, 935 patients

A 2017 meta-analysis pooled the placebo-controlled randomized trials of shockwave for chronic plantar fasciitis. Patients who had real shockwave had about two and a half times the odds of improvement compared with sham, with no serious adverse events. Focused shockwave showed the most consistent effect; radial shockwave a larger but more variable one, and the authors asked for more trials.

What we do with it

Shockwave for the heel that has outlasted orthotics, stretching and cortisone; laser for an early one; needling for the calf; injections where the attachment needs more. First-step pain scored at every visit, and most heels turn by session three or four. No success rates quoted.

What To Expect

Eight to twelve minutes from Lady Lake, weekly for the series.

01

Coverage checked, then a free consult

You know the visit cost and what shockwave would add before you come in. Twenty minutes, free, no referral.

02

Confirm it is the fascia

The Achilles, a stress fracture and a nerve all cause heel pain. Dr. Cheshire examines the foot and calf and your history, and sends you for imaging first if the picture fits a fracture.

03

Weekly for three to six sessions

Shockwave on the attachment, needling the calf in the same visit where it helps. Keep walking at the volume we agree; fascia rebuilds under load.

04

First-step pain as the marker

Scored at every visit. If the heel is not turning by session four we re-examine and say so.

Is This You, Lady Lake?

Worth the cost when:

  • The heel pain has been there more than three months.
  • It is sharpest on the first steps after rest.
  • You have been quoted a package and want it priced per session.
  • Orthotics, stretching, night splints or cortisone have been tried.
  • You would rather rebuild the tissue than manage the pain indefinitely.

Something else first: a sudden pop with sharp pain can mean a fascia rupture, pain worse at night or at rest can mean a stress fracture, and burning or numbness points to a nerve. We screen for all three at the consultation.

Shockwave per session, quoted as a series of three to six in writing before you begin. Acupuncture visits often covered by insurance; laser and injections per session. Only what the exam calls for. Call 352-430-2720.
No insurer does, and Medicare does not. The acupuncture visits are covered by many plans, which we confirm by phone. Source: CMS National Coverage Determination 30.3.3.
Different. Cortisone quiets a heel for weeks and carries a small risk of weakening the fascia; shockwave aims at restarting the repair. We do not inject cortisone.
Three to six weekly shockwave sessions for most chronic heels, with most turning by session three or four and improving for weeks after.

No. Per session with a series rate, and we stop when the heel has turned.
