In short: Is sciatica treatment covered by insurance in Lady Lake, FL? Acupuncture visits often are, and Medicare may apply with chronic low back pain. Plain answers. This sciatica treatment page for Lady Lake, FL puts coverage first, then explains what the visits do to the disc, joint or hip muscle irritating the nerve.

Coverage First

How much does sciatica treatment cost for Lady Lake patients, and what does insurance cover?

Private insurance

Acupuncture and dry needling lead a sciatica plan, and many plans cover those visits, with cupping included rather than billed separately. Phone with your card and we confirm coverage and copay before the first appointment. Self pay prices are given before you book.

Medicare

Original Medicare covers acupuncture for chronic low back pain only: twelve weeks or more Source: CMS National Coverage Determination 30.3.3, no identifiable systemic cause, not tied to surgery or pregnancy, within its visit limits and supervision rules. Sciatica that comes from a low back meeting that description may qualify; sciatica from the hip alone does not. We tell you which yours is before you commit.

Injections and laser

Sarapin point injections and low level laser are self pay, per injection and per session, added only when the exam finds the tissue around the nerve needs more than needling, and priced before you agree.

No packages. Call 352-430-2720 and you leave the call knowing what you would pay.

Insurance and payment details.

What The Visits Do

An irritated nerve, not a leg problem.

The sciatic nerve is the largest in the body. It leaves the low back, passes under and through the deep muscles of the hip, and runs down the back of the leg. When a disc, an inflamed joint or a tight piriformis muscle compresses or irritates it, the nerve fires pain, tingling or numbness anywhere along the route. That is why treating the leg rarely works: the leg is where the signal ends up, not where it starts. It is also why sciatica eases when you walk, flares when you sit, and moves from the thigh to the calf and back.

The exam sorts disc from joint from muscle, because each responds to different treatment. Acupuncture and dry needling release the hip rotators that entrap the nerve and the back muscles guarding it. Sarapin point injections, not a steroid, and laser calm the tissue around the irritated segment. Cupping decompresses the fascia keeping pressure on it. Full sciatica page.

Worth Paying For?

The 2023 review

Thirty randomized trials, 2,662 people with sciatica Source: Zhang et al., Frontiers in Neuroscience, 2023 (30 trials, 2,662 participants). Compared with medication, acupuncture produced a higher rate of meaningful improvement, lower pain scores, fewer recurrences and fewer side effects. The authors rated the improvement-rate finding as moderate certainty and the pain finding as low, because the trials varied widely, and said to read it cautiously.

What we do with it

Lead with needling, add injections or laser only where the exam calls for them, keep you walking, and track how far up the leg the pain has retreated rather than quoting success rates.

What To Expect

What happens at the first sciatica treatment visit for Lady Lake patients?

01

Coverage confirmed, then a free consult

Medicare has its own paperwork, which we handle with you. Twenty minutes, free, no referral.

02

Find the source

Dr. Cheshire examines the back, hip and leg and tells you whether it is disc, joint or muscle.

03

Weekly, treating the path

Needling the low back and hip, injections or laser along the segment if needed, cupping the fascia. Walk between visits; sitting feeds it.

04

Track the retreat up the leg

The leg often eases within a few visits; the source needs about a month, then spacing out. If it is not moving we say so.

Is This You, Lady Lake?

A strong fit when:

  • The pain runs below the knee or into the foot.
  • Sitting makes it worse and walking often eases it.
  • It has lasted more than a few weeks or keeps returning.
  • You want to know what you will pay before you start.
  • You want to avoid long term medication for nerve pain.

Emergency care, not acupuncture, for loss of bladder or bowel control, numbness in the groin or inner thighs, or rapidly worsening leg weakness. Imaging first after a fall. We screen at the consultation.

A 2023 review of 30 trials, 2,662 people, found it beat medication on improvement, pain and recurrence with fewer side effects, rated moderate to low certainty. We state the limits of the evidence as plainly as the results, and measure your own progress from the first visit rather than quoting success rates.
The leg often eases within a few. The back and hip that caused it need weekly visits for about a month before spacing out. Progress is scored against measurements taken at the first visit, and the plan is changed or stopped if the numbers have not moved by the checkpoint.
Usually a disc, an inflamed spinal joint, or the piriformis muscle in the hip entrapping the nerve. The exam sorts which.
Usually yes. Walking helps; prolonged sitting feeds it. We tell you how to sit and what to avoid between visits.
