Shockwave Therapy for Wildwood, FL
"ESWT for knee pain" is one of the most searched shockwave questions, and the answer depends entirely on which knee pain. For the tendon below or above the kneecap that flares on stairs, getting out of a chair and the morning after a long walk, shockwave is the right tool. For worn cartilage it is not, and this page says so. Twelve to eighteen minutes from the southern Villages and downtown Wildwood via 44 and 466.

Which Knee Pain
Does shockwave therapy help arthritis, or only tendons?
Wildwood knees come to us after a change in routine: more walking, more stairs, more than the tendon was used to. Sorting the tendon from the joint is the whole exam.
Patellar tendinopathy: shockwave, yes
Pain just below the kneecap, worst on stairs and squats, from a tendon that has stopped remodelling. ESWT has trial support here and restarts the repair in a short series. Common after a sudden increase in activity.
Quadriceps tendon pain: shockwave, yes
Pain above the kneecap on the same movements, same mechanism, same treatment. We pair it with loading work so the tendon rebuilds under the right stress.
Knee osteoarthritis: shockwave, mostly no
Shockwave does not regrow cartilage. For an arthritic joint lining we use laser, acupuncture and point injections, and shockwave only if a tendon is also involved, which it often is. Arthritis treatment.
Pes anserine and IT band: sometimes
Inner-knee tendon bursitis and outer-knee IT band friction respond to needling and cupping first; shockwave is added when the tendon itself has degenerated. Full knee pain page.
New To Wildwood
The knees did not come with the house.
A lot of our Wildwood patients are recent arrivals, from the newer southern Villages and the older streets around downtown. The pattern is familiar: more walking, more stairs, a new activity several mornings a week, and a knee tendon that was fine in the old routine now flaring every time the volume goes up.
That is a load problem on a tendon that has not adapted, and shockwave plus a sensible ramp is the fix, not months on the couch. We also help you find the rest of your medical team if you are still settling in. One call, a free consultation, a plan in plain language.
Twelve to eighteen minutes via State Road 44 or County Road 466, ground floor, free parking at the door.
The Series
What a knee tendon series looks like.
Exam: tendon or joint?
Dr. Cheshire tests the tendon, the joint line and the hip and ankle mechanics loading the knee. You get a plain answer about which tool fits.
Weekly shockwave, four to six
Five to ten minutes on the tendon attachment. Firm tapping, adjustable intensity, soreness for a day after. Laser on the joint in the same visit when the lining is inflamed too.
Load it, do not rest it
Tendons rebuild under load. We give you a stairs and strength plan and an activity volume you can keep, instead of telling you to stop.
Checkpoint
Stairs, the chair, the morning after a game: all easy to track. The tendon keeps improving for weeks after the last session.
Shockwave Therapy Cost
How much does shockwave therapy cost for Wildwood patients, and what does insurance cover?
How it is priced
Per session, quoted as the full series of four to six at the free consultation. Wildwood patients hear the whole number before anything is booked.
Insurance and Medicare
ESWT is not covered by Medicare or insurance Source: CMS National Coverage Determination 30.3.3; it is self pay. Acupuncture visits in the same plan are covered by many insurance plans, and we check yours first.
Two therapies, one drive
For Wildwood patients we combine shockwave with laser or needling in one appointment where we can, so each drive does more.
The first 20 minute consultation is free and no referral is needed. Call 352-430-2720. For reference, consumer cost guides put a single acupuncture visit in the United States at roughly $50 to $150, and we quote your own course in writing at the free consultation. Is This Your Knee?
Shockwave fits when:
- The pain sits just below or above the kneecap, not deep inside the joint.
- Stairs, squatting and the first steps after sitting are the worst.
- It has been there three months or more and rest brings it straight back.
- You want to keep walking and staying active while it heals.
- You would rather fix the tendon than take another cortisone shot.
Not for a knee that locks, gives way or swelled fast after an injury. That needs an orthopedic evaluation first. We also skip shockwave over infection, fresh fracture and tumors, and take care with blood thinners.
